Endocrine Society Applauds FDA Actions Countering Misleading Claims on Compounded “Bioidentical” Hormones

- The Endocrine Society strongly supports recent action by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) countering unfounded and misleading claims that compounded “bioidentical hormones” are safer and more effective that traditional hormone therapies. One of the Largest Post-WHI Physician Surveys Shows More Education is Needed: Patient Misinformation about Hormone Therapy Remains High

- The Hormone Foundation announces results from one of the largest national surveys of doctors involved in menopause care conducted since the release of initial findings from the Women's Health Initiative (WHI). The results leave no doubt - even five years later, a cloud of confusion lingers for both physicians and patients regarding the results of the WHI study. The online survey of over 400 physicians concludes that patients remain confused about the risks of hormone therapy (HT); in fact, only 15% of doctors believe their patients accurately perceive the risks of HT. Obesity Cited Number-One Kids' Health Issue
Washington, DC; December 13, 2006
- Obesity or being overweight is seen as the most important health issue for U.S. children, according to a new poll commissioned by Research!America and The Endocrine Society. More than a quarter of Americans (27 percent) named obesity as the top health issue for kids, followed by lack of health care/insurance (16 percent) and nutrition/unhealthy diet (9 percent). - The Hormone Foundation, the public education affiliate of The Endocrine Society, unveiled its redesigned Web site, www.hormone.org, during ENDO 2006, the 88th Annual Meeting of The Endocrine Society in Boston, Mass. AACC and The Endocrine Society Partner to Promote Patient Education Washington, DC, March 14, 2005 - The American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) announced today that The Endocrine Society has endorsed Lab Tests Online and will encourage its members to help spread the word about AACC’s award-winning patient education web site. The Endocrine Society, the world’s oldest, largest and most active organization in the field of endocrinology is the first organization to join the site’s new Endorser program, which AACC launched this year in an effort to broaden support within the medical community for Lab Tests Online, the Internet’s premiere public resource on laboratory testing.
